Camilla Prata
Camilla Prata, a 2017 and 2019 Vision Fellow, graduated from the Commonwealth Honors Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in May 2021. Having earned her undergraduate degree in nutrition and a minor in psychology, Camilla will matriculate at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in the summer of 2026. She was born and raised on the Island and attended the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School from kindergarten through 10th grade. She moved to the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School as a junior, where she played varsity tennis on the 2016 state championship team. From 2017 through 2020, Camilla interned at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Karen Casper, an emergency medicine physician. Through her fellowship, she conducted research on opioid overdoses and Naloxone use in all six towns on Martha’s Vineyard, customized informational cards on the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer Narcan, designed and distributed posters on availability of Narcan to local pharmacies, and created videos in English and Portuguese on how to administer Narcan intranasally. Since graduation in May 2021, Camilla has worked as a medical scribe at UMass Memorial Hospital, through a fellowship program, a research associate at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and a nutritionist for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
