Casey Blum
Casey Blum, LICSW, MS, is the Cofounder and Executive Director of Martha’s Vineyard Ocean Academy (MVOA), a shipboard experiential learning program for youth and adolescents aboard the historic schooner Shenandoah. Through her work at MVOA, Casey has created a ‘Positive Youth Development’ curriculum that serves as a model for other tall ship programs in the United States. She is a published author in the Journal of Experiential Education and she holds dual master’s degrees from the University of New Hampshire in Outdoor Education and Adventure Therapy, which she earned with the support of a 2017 Vision Fellowship award. Casey is a licensed social worker in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and holds a 100 ton U.S. Coast Guard Master’s license. Casey contracts with the Martha’s Vineyard public school system and has a caseload of adolescent clients at the high school. She gets joy out of seeing the transformative power that unplugged experiences in the natural world can have on youth and young adults.
