Carrie Fyler

Carrie Fyler’s 2019 Vision Fellowship award enabled the continuation of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s Tick Lab. The Tick Lab was the only lab on Martha’s Vineyard that was then testing deer ticks for Borrelia, the bacteria that causes Lyme disease in humans. The Tick Lab was created in spring 2018 through the work of Carrie’s Science Honors Research students. It’s mission was twofold: first, to create a valuable long-term database for a dire public health issue on Martha’s Vineyard; and, second, to train Island students in the molecular skills necessary to excel in college and the workforce. Carrie now teaches science at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey.
